How To Effectively Learn a New Language

First off I am not an expert when it comes to this but I started learning Korean(Hangul) few months ago and some tips helped me become better.

If I’m being honest, I haven’t studied in a while due to work and some personal things but I’m back and better!

I started my learning journey through Kdrama and listening to some songs (it helps alot) Korean Unnie and TalktomeinKorean.com.

I was inspired by the Korean culture, I found it really fascinating and different from what I know, being a Nigerian there are different cultures and finding out something so different made me really curious, I made quite a few friends and that really encouraged me more!

I watch alot of Korean dramas to test my understanding and to know if I’m making progress.

At first i didn’t understand cause they were speaking fast and I thought oh well let me speak fast, mind you I speak fast so instead I spoke faster but guess what? No one understood what I was saying, there is this app called HiNative, I record my Korean and ask some bunch of native speakers to help me correct my pronunciation but guess what? They couldn’t understand me, some didn’t get my name and a nice lady asked me to speak slowly, I tried for 2 days and I went back to “show off” and she was impressed, I downloaded Kakaochat and it really helped me, I’m currently in level 2 on TalktomeinKorean.com this is my plug you guys, I hope you take a step to learning a new language, be it French, Spanish or Korean, make sure you are devoted and determined.

Whenever you feel like giving up, I will always be in your heart cheering you on!

I learn 2 -3 hours during week days between my work hours and 5 hours weekends during my leisure moment.

You can do it!

Try to speak it more often, ask your friends to help you, teach someone as well, get a study group or buddy, I repeat watch ALOT OF KOREAN DRAMAS and in 6 months or a year, you will be so much better! Don’t rush it, take it one step at a time, don’t bother about writing or reading in Hangul yet, learn to speak first then learn to read and write later, well it worked for me and still working.

I hope this post inspires you and I can’t wait to read your success stories.
